Formulation: refining the recipe

A vital factor in the successful production of microbials is formulation. Before the bacteria can be sent to market, it needs to be turned into a product that can be used safely and easily. After we determine how the bacteria work (or the mode of action), we can then formulate the active ingredient (bacteria).

To do this, we add other ingredients such as wetting agents and dispersants, anti-foam and viscosity modifying agents. These all help ensure that the end-product is stable, safe to handle and apply, and protected from environmental factors.

“Formulation can be a game-changer."
