Regulatory barriers and outdated policies can hinder technological innovation. Carbon reduction targets and policies assume technological innovation but overlook regulatory barriers. The "Technological hockey stick" is only possible if a "Regulatory hockey stick" is initiated. That is why we advocate for a supportive and agile regulatory framework that embraces sustainable innovation.

EU sector collaboration and policy priorities

The need to shape a more sustainable future is urgent

Challenges such as climate change, food waste, global health and the overuse of antibiotics and pesticides are all pressing issues that society and industry need to address.

Food production accounts for nearly 1/3 of global greenhouse gas emissions

A 70% agricultural efficiency increase is needed to feed the future population

1/3 of all food is wasted which is equal to 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions

Aging population, rise in non-communicable diseases and antibiotic resistance

Chr. Hansen's sustainable microbial solutions can drive positive change

Our 50,000 microbial strains can help:

  • extend shelf life of foods and delay growth of pathogens
  • support gut and immune health in adults and infants
  • replace chemical pesticides in crop farming
  • increase productivity in yogurt and cheese manufacturing
  • create healthy and tasty foods
  • reduce use of antimicrobial growth promoters (AGPs) in livestock production.

We are striving to fight food waste with good bacteria and fermentation

of waste is due to product expiration

of yogurt waste can be reduced by extending shelf life by seven days

We are using good bacteria to empower growers globally

We are supporting a healthy lifestyle through probiotics

sick days (flu-like sickness) can be avoided each year if the US population takes probiotics*
