In the wake of the unanimous UN member state adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, Chr. Hansen launched its first sustainability strategy. The SDGs set the direction for how, we as a global society, should address the world’s biggest challenges towards 2030.
Based on a comprehensive mapping of our entire product portfolio of more than 3,000 products, we selected three SDGs where we have a direct positive impact, 2 Zero hunger, 3 Good health and well-being and 12 Responsible consumption and production.
Assessing the annual revenue contribution to the UN Global Goals
Each year, we measure the share of revenue generated from products that contribute to one or more of the three UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The methodology for assessing the positive impact of Chr. Hansen products is based on an extensive assessment where all 17 goals and 169 sub-targets are mapped against Chr. Hansen’s business impact and potential opportunity. Product impacts can fall into two main categories: ‘Improving food and the environment’ or ‘Improving animal and human health’. Under these two, eight specific impact categories are defined, e.g. reduce salt, sugar and fat; promote health and well-being; reduce waste and increase productivity and yield.
High criteria for documentation of the specific product impact are defined to ensure that the impact is sound. The annual revenue contribution is disclosed in the annual report and reviewed by our auditor.
