As the only food ingredient company among the winners in this year’s “China Employer Branding Award Creativity Campaign”, Chr. Hansen China took home the award for the “Best Employee Experience”. The award rewards Chr. Hansen’s best practice and outstanding achievements in employer branding, based on HR and employee projects and activities that contribute to a better employee experience and a positive cooperate culture. Through this the employees’ recognition and affirmation of the company are improved, translating into higher engagement.

“I am very proud of our Chinese colleagues having received this recognition. They deserve kudos for their hard and engaged work and on winning an HR award for the first time. It is also a strong indication that our efforts to install global HR programs and procedures throughout the Chr. Hansen world to ensure equally high standards and engagement are paying off,” says Alice Larsen, corporate vice president, Human Resources.

Come Fly – or walk – with me!

Creativity and innovation in employer branding were a key theme for the year’s Best Employee Experience competition, which additionally serves as a platform for open thinking and multi-dimensional communication by bringing human resource executives and employer branding leaders in China together.

Chr. Hansen could boast of several strongholds one of which is the recently launched Come Fly With Me program focusing on the overall employee experience from joining to leaving the company. From the initial welcoming including practical support tool kits, a structured mentor & buddy set-up, development plans and career goals, this program helps new employees settle in fast and explore their new workplace in close cooperation with an engaging team.

It is the first time that a global HR concept like this has been introduced in China, and the successful implementation is a major driver for receiving the award. Another initiative of a more local kind has also played a part. The “We Walk’ activity is an initiative that encourages Chinese employees to choose walking over public transportation, which perfectly fits Chr. Hansen’s strong sustainability and health agenda by nudging employees to exercise and take good care of themselves.

The slogan of this activity is 'Walk to Copenhagen’ (where Chr. Hansen is headquartered), meaning that the common goal is to accumulate the same number of kilometers walked as the distance between Beijing and Copenhagen, Denmark - 7197 km or approx. 4500 miles. Moreover, the number of steps is donated to public welfare activities.

Other employee focused activities include team building in nature, parties, corporate events, family day tours, and other initiatives to ensure that Chr. Hansen employees have the best experience from all aspects of life.

“We are extremely proud and humble to receive this amazing honor. In the future, Chr. Hansen will continue to focus on the experience, well-being and engagement of employees, which is vital to achieving our business goals and making the world a better place through our natural, sustainable solutions,” says Sammie Wu, HR Manager, Chr. Hansen China.

Chr. Hansen is a Denmark-based global bioscience company established in 1874. Its Chinese operations were established in 2002 and, from a very modest start, have grown to have a leading market position in China.
