The poultry business is tough. Driven by the regulation of growth promoting antibiotics and the increased focus on food safety, poultry farmers face growing challenges when looking for new effective tools that can limit the growth of enteric pathogens and improve performance. GALLIPRO® FIT is an easy-to-use, natural solution that helps poultry farmers overcome these challenges.

“GALLIPRO® FIT is Chr. Hansen’s first probiotic to combine three unique strains in one product to address some of the key challenges faced by poultry producers today. Together, the three novel strains in GALLIPRO® FIT have been proven to effectively support the digestive performance and a healthy normal immune system in broilers, layers and turkeys,” explains Dorthe Sandvang DVM, PhD, Animal Health Innovation and lead-scientist on the project.

Commercially successful in the US and Australian markets

GALLIPRO® FIT launched in the US in 2017 and in Australia in 2018. With registration and regulatory approval secured in South Africa, Chr. Hansen is now able to bring this commercially successful product to a new market – and is also preparing for launch in Brazil, with other markets to follow in 2020.

“Since the launch of GALLIPRO® FIT in the US, we have built even further upon our field trials and university trials with large customer trials to document the product’s efficacy. The unique combination of strains in GALLIPRO® FIT enables us to help customers address multiple challenges in one solution. The uptake of the product among our customers has been very positive and we are excited to be able to bring this relevant solution to South Africa and other markets,” says Christophe Bostvironnois, senior global product manager for Poultry at Chr. Hansen.

Proven efficacy

With feed representing 68% of the cost of broiler production1, production profitability is important, and margins are under pressure. Protecting poultry from Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella and Escherichia coli is key for farmers to get the highest productivity out of their chickens. In 2018, 20 processing plants were banned from export of poultry meat from Brazil due to Salmonella issues2. There are more than 2,500 Salmonella serotypes and 26% of chicken parts establishments in the US have exceeded the maximum allowable percent of Salmonella positive in 20183.

GALLIPRO® FIT has been proven to be effective in the following key areas:

  • Supports a healthy, normal immune system
  • Contributes to food quality programs
  • Performance and nutritional value drive strong profitability with a positive return
  • The effects of GALLIPRO® FIT are tested in customers’ feed and in traditional farming conditions
  • Easy to use: Three carefully selected heat stable strains provide predictable outcomes

Probiotics, the natural alternative

More than 145 years of science-based solutions for the food and agricultural industry has led Chr. Hansen to a growing library of around 40,000 bacterial strains. GALLIPRO® FIT is a third-generation product and the newest addition to Chr. Hansen’s GALLIPRO® range of solutions for the poultry industry. Whereas GALLIPRO® Tect focuses on improving the gut microbial balance and the overall health of the gastrointestinal tract to build defences, GALLIPRO® FIT’s three strains in one product address multiple challenges, with focus on food safety.

With 266 Bacillus species in the world, strain selection really does matter. GALLIPRO® FIT contains unique, strains of bacteria that are selected for their relative effectiveness at demonstrating beneficial modes of action, making them particularly suitable for improving the success of commercial poultry operations.

“From our library of bacterial strains, we carefully select strains with a research-proven ability to influence animal survivability, support a healthy, normal immune system and keep pathogens under control. In GALLIPRO® FIT we are bringing to the South African market a tried and tested solution to help poultry farmers protect their business from farm to fork,” concludes Bostvironnois.
