Calcium carbonate

A common substance found in rocks like limestone, calcium carbonate is also the main component of pearls and the shells of marine organisms, snails, and eggs. It is very stable and can be dispersed or suspended in water or a food matrix.
It is often used to coat tablets and dietary supplements or as the first layer of panned candies to help brighten the colored coating. It is also a common filler ingredient in chewing gum.
