Dry matter preservation

Fast and effective fermentation of forage crops during ensiling is a prerequisite for the preservation of valuable nutrients for dairy cows. The faster fermentation occurs, the greater the quantity of nutrients preserved for feeding.

Spoilage microorganisms

Yeasts and molds compete with lactic acid bacteria for sugars in the crop. Limiting proliferation of these spoilage microorganisms is important, not only to ensure nutrients get to the cows, but also to minimize the risk of anti-nutritional factors that can lead to digestive upsets.

Starter/finisher technology

The benefits of starter/finisher strain technology have been engineered into BIOMAX® Pro to ensure an improved fermentation.

Effective against a range of spoilage microorganisms

In the lab, the strains in BIOMAX® Pro show a convincing inhibition of a range of yeasts and molds that include Pichia anomala, Pichia canadensis, Pichia kudriavzevii, Wickerhamomyces anomalus, Pichia fermentans, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus fumigatus.

In the photo above, colored areas indicate the zones of inhibition where the bacterial strains of BIOMAX® Pro inhibit the proliferation of a yeast, Wickerhamomyces anomalus, isolated from spoiled corn silage. The unique strains in BIOMAX® Pro specifically reduce five yeasts and two molds.

The relative inhibition of the strains in BIOMAX® Pro against these seven spoilage organisms is depicted in Figure 2.

What’s inside BIOMAX® Pro

BIOMAX® Pro contains the well-proven Lactobacillus plantarum CH6072 from our BIOMAX® and SILOSOLVE® brands, and features enhanced acidification from Lactobacillus plantarum LSI. In addition we have included Pediococcus pentosaceus P6 to speed the fermentation process.
