Chr. Hansen has joined the Science Based Targets Initiative to limit global temperature rise, led by a global coalition of UN agencies and leading organizations aligning our business with the ambition of the Paris Agreement.

According to SBTi, we must limit the global temperature rise compared to pre-industrial levels, to ensure a low-carbon transformation and to mitigate some of the worst climate impacts, thereby avoiding irreversible damage to our societies, economies and the natural world.

Climate-friendly future
“By setting Science Based Targets, we make a commitment to provide solutions for a more climate friendly future,” says Chr. Hansen’s CEO Mauricio Graber.

The last few months have shown that when we act collectively across industries, governments and communities, things can be accelerated fast. If there is one thing that has become clear during this Covid-19 pandemic, it is our dependency on nature and a stable global food and health system. This is therefore a unique opportunity to take bold actions and make sure that we don’t return to business usual. The reboot of our economy must have a green signature, and allow the private sector and public institutions to build back better.”

Corporate responsibility
Chr. Hansen has the experience of more than 145 years to bring sustainable innovations to the market to solve global challenges. For instance, our food cultures that can delay spoilage in fermented dairy products like yogurt can potentially reduce yogurt waste, contributing positively to save carbon emissions.

Sustainability is a crucial part of Chr. Hansen’s DNA and that is why we consider it our corporate responsibility to take effective measure to help fight climate change. We were awarded in January as the world’s most sustainable food ingredients company by Corporate Knights and are committed to further minimizing our environmental impact.

Sustainable supplier
“Committing to the Science Based Targets is a clear sign that we are stepping up stronger on our ambition level when it comes to curbing climate change,” says Torsten Steenholt, executive vice president, Global Operations, Chr. Hansen. “We met our CO2 efficiency target last year. Dedicated to stay on the right track, we are currently defining science-based carbon emission reduction targets across our entire value chain. We will work even harder to become a sustainable supplier, focusing on reducing production and transportation emissions. Also, our innovation teams are continuously searching for new ways to upcycle and transform resources, for instance, we are offering our customers more concentrated cultures with a lower carbon footprint.”
