Since 1874 Chr. Hansen’s solutions have been based on strong research and development competencies. We strive to understand nature’s own processes – and to apply this knowledge to create better food products and optimize production processes. Collaborating closely with our customers, we aim to drive innovation with value-added ingredients towards new frontiers.

Core competencies

Fermentation: Chr. Hansen's research and development activities focus on building up world-class knowledge around our technological core competences: finding and developing microorganisms for the global food and health industries.
Microbial physiology: One of Chr. Hansen's core competencies is microbial physiology. By investigating how our cultures interact with the environment they exist in, we gain valuable insight into their functionality and performance.
Customization: Chr. Hansen's starts the development of successful bacterial cultures for the dairy industry by understanding the needs and wants of our customers. Only this way we can select and develop strains that deliver superior performance in the final product.
Screening: Development of innovative new products requires finding the bacterial strains best suited for the job by screening among many thousands of candidates. This is why Chr. Hansen has invested in advanced technology within this field.

Strategic Partnerships: Chr. Hansen is actively entering into partnerships with researchers and biotech companies with innovative projects within our specialized fields. Partnerships can start in all stages of a project – from joined research in the early discovery phases to in-licensing of fully developed products.
