ColorFruit®

Stable, transparent and bright natural food colors in yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple shades

ColorFruit® is our range of transparent anthocyanins and carotenes, especially suitable for beverages, but also very used in confectionery, fruit preparations, dairy and ice cream. ColorFruit® shades are bright and range from yellow, orange, red and pink to purple and are excellent replacers of artificial yellows and reds. ColorFruit® offers excellent light, heat and pH stability.

ColorFruit® from natural sources

Our ColorFruit® range consists of anthocyanins (reddish shades) and carotenes (yellowish shades).
Anthocyanin is a natural pigment (labeled E163 in Europe) found widely in edible fruits and vegetables such as grape, elderberry, red radish, red cabbage, blackcurrant and black carrot. The color shade ranges from orange, over red to purple.

Carotenes are pigments (labeled E160a, E160c, E160e and E161b in Europe) found widely in nature from vegetables, fruits, plants, algae and some fungi and bacteria. Chr. Hansen uses sources such as palm oil fruits and carrots. The color shade ranges from yellow to orange.

ColorFruit® from Europe and Asia

Anthocyanins are sourced from Europe and Chr. Hansen is the only anthocyanin producer to have production facilities for grape in the three main anthocyanin countries Spain, France and Italy. This network allows us to secure high quality products every year and throughout the year.

The palm oil fruits used in the production of the carotene-based ColorFruit® colors are sourced from Asia. Chr. Hansen is the main player on the market for natural carotene based on palm oil fruits.

We produce ColorFruit® in Denmark and Italy.

ColorFruit® for all food and beverages

The many different types of ColorFruit® natural food color solutions technically allow almost any food or beverage to be colored from yellow, orange, red and pink to purple. However, ColorFruit® is particularly suitable for beverages.

Future of ColorFruit®: ultra-stable and new emulsifiers

Recently, new anthocyanin sources have been launched in the market. Due to certain technical properties these sources are very stable to light and heat. New emulsion technologies make our future carotene-based ColorFruit® products polysorbate free. These new sources and technologies make the new ColorFruit® excellent replacers of yellow and red artificial colors in beverages in particular.
