About SiloSolve® AS 200

Most farmers experience heating of silage due largely to the growth of yeast and mold. Good management, including proper compaction, reduces the heat. However, some crops, such as maize, heat more often than other crops. Yeast and mold are fungi that grow well in the presence of oxygen.

Yeasts initiate the heating of silage and molds usually follow. Certain molds produce harmful mycotoxins. Mycotoxins may compromise production and health of animals.

Improves aerobic stability

SiloSolve® AS 200 is very effective in improving aerobic stability by reducing growth of yeast and mold in a variety of crops. The longer it takes silage to reach temperatures above the black line, as seen in the first figure, the more stable it is. Forages ensiled with SiloSolve® AS 200 are more stable than untreated silage.

SiloSolve® AS 200 reduces ethanol and ammonia

SiloSolve® AS 200 consistently reduces ethanol and ammonia in silage to help improve silage quality. Ammonia concentration is an important quality parameter in silage because it reflects the amount of protein being degraded during fermentation. High ammonia content also results in less palatable silage.

Documented benefits of SiloSolve® AS 200

A rapid pH reduction after sealing is important. It is also important to maintain a low pH value after opening the silo because this will inhibit growth of spoilage microorganisms. In trials, SiloSolve® AS 200 was shown to improve aerobic stability and maintain a lower pH - even after aerobic exposure. SiloSolve® AS 200 maintained a low pH throughout the trials, whereas the untreated silage had unacceptably high pH after opening.

About SiloSolve® OS

Top layer spoilage can destroy up to 10% of your total forage due to yeast and mold. Good management, including proper compaction and sealing of the bunker, can reduce spoilage. But the diffusion of oxygen through the cover, along with insufficient compaction, makes the top layer more prone to heating and spoilage than the rest of the bunker. SiloSolve® OS is a powerful silage inoculant that combines the effects of proven lactic acid bacterial strains with a unique strain of Lactococcus lactis O224. L lactis O224 has an oxygen scavenging ability. In combination, the three bacteria speed up anaerobic conditions. This, together with a well-known preservative, sodium benzoate, inhibits the growth of yeast and mold and promotes fermentation. At the same time, pH levels are rapidly reduced to allow the full preservative functionality of sodium benzoate, making SiloSolve® OS ideal for top layer treatment.

SiloSolve® OS improves aerobic stability

SiloSolve® OS effectively improves aerobic stability by reducing yeast and mold growth in a variety of crops. The longer it takes silage to exceed the ambient temperature with more than 5.4°F (see figure to the right), the more stable it is. Forages ensiled with SiloSolve® OS are more stable than untreated silage.

Cut dry matter loss by up to 60%

SiloSolve® OS has a unique combination of three bacterial strains. They accelerate fermentation and improve dry matter (DM) recovery, while stabilizing the top layer. This not only means more feed for cows. It reduces the amount of labor needed to remove the spoiled top layer.

On farm experience

Results from nine farms consistently showed reduced levels of mold and yeast in corn silage treated with SiloSolve® OS. The maximum level of mold and yeast in silage should be less than 100,000 CFU/g, to maintain stable silage. SiloSolve® OS bacterial strains also lower pH levels. They create the perfect conditions for the sodium benzoate to keep spoilage microorganisms in check and the value of your silage well preserved.

Three unique strains

SiloSolve® AS 200 contains two fast growing and competitive lactic acid bacteria and a unique strain of Lactobacillus buchneri. This specific bacterial strain combination improves fermentation processes and inhibits yeast and mold growth resulting in improved aerobic stability at feed out.

Targeted crops for SiloSolve® AS 200 include those with high sugar and low protein, ensiled at high dry matter concentrations or at low moisture concentrations.

Use:

Contents of one 200 g sachet are added to 20-200 liters of water, corresponding to 0.2-2 liters/ton fresh forage. Recommended dose = 250,000 cfu/g fresh forage.

Use:

Recommendation for corn silage: One 50g canister of silage inoculant and one 9kg bag of sodium benzoate, uniformly mixed in at least 25 gallons of water, treats 3,750 square feet of top surface area - or 25 tons of silage. The mixed solution should be applied at a rate of one gallon of water per 150 square feet of top surface area - or one ton of fresh forage. Follow mixing directions on product label for best results.
