Continued strong focus on the environment
24-01-08
Chr. Hansen has just published its global environmental report for the financial year of 2007 covering 30 sites.
Chr. Hansen reduced its absolute consumption of raw materials and energy for the second year in a row. When it comes to the results for water consumption, chemicals and packaging material, there is still room for improvement. The many initiatives taken to improve our environmental performance are yet to be fully reflected in the data, but measures are being taken to speed this up.
In 2007 we entered into an agreement with the energy company DONG Energy that aims at reducing our energy consumption through optimization and increased energy efficiency. This is a step in the right direction to pursue our ambitious goals of a more effective utilization of natural resources.

Lean - instrumental in improving the environmental performance
The successful roll-out of the Lean principles at our most important production sites in Denmark, Brazil, France and USA is already resulting in positive effects on the environment as well as health and safety. Some of these are described in more detail in this year’s report.
Keeping focus
Over the past two years we have strengthened the framework for our environmental, health and safety efforts. Now we are reviewing company policies and positions regarding health, safety, work conditions, anti-corruption and environment (follow the progress here on www.chr-hansen.com).
“As long as we continue to focus on improving the efficiencies of everything we do we have great possibilities to lift our performance,” says Lars Frederiksen, CEO.
